After his retirement as Lord President ( = Chief Justice of the Federal Court . highest tribunal ), he was also the Head of State ( Agong or Paramount Ruler ) of Malaysia. He was the Ruler (Sultan) of Perak State).
He has been known to be witty. Once he was presiding Judge in the High Court when a lawyer got up to address the bench.
Judge: I can't hear you.
The lawyer spoke louder.
Judge: I still can't hear you!!
The lawyer, taken aback, almost spoke in shouting volume.
Judge: I still cannot hear you, counsel.
Then someone reminded softly to the lawyer that he has forgotten his court vestments..
Now, wearing it immediately, the lawyer readdressed the Court.
The Judge now said: " Ah! Now I hear you. Please proceed. "
His passing is a loss to Malaysia.
