There is an ongoing farmers' protest in India at the moment. It appears the farmers are demanding the waiver of their loans.
But it is noted that most of the loans are never repaid. There is also no demand being made for the repayment of such loans. No one also has been sued or imprisoned.
The loans were given by the previous government in India and should have been written off during their rule itself. They failed to do so.
In the circumstances there is no issue.
Waiver will be just a paper exercise.
Indian agriculture minister says it is a gimmick by opposition politicians.
It appears to be so.
