Ramayana - The word `Sanskrit' occurs for the first time as referring to a language in the Ramayana : "In the latter [Ramayana] the term `samskrta' "formal, polished", is encountered, probably for the first time with reference to the language"
-- [ EB 22 `Langs', p. 616 ] It is to be noted that extant versions of the Ramayana date only to the centuries AD.
This paragraph was cited by author Shyam Rao writing on Sanskrit.
Valmiki was a Dalit and was the first great poet for Sanskrit.. He composed the Ramayana.. He referred the language he was composing in as Sanskrit. Previously the term was not in existence. A similar language that pre-existed was called Chandasa ( சந்த அசை ) அதாவது சந்தங்களுக்கு ஏற்ப வாயசைப்பு ).
Valmiki was also a Tamil poet. His poem exists in Puram. Many of the names in Ramayana are of Tamil origin
Panini was a paNan ( the minstrel caste ) also parayan and a great grammarian.
There are some bugs in this post. We are looking into the problem
