Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (Malaysia )is shouting sabotage over the leaks of the Science and English papers in the UPSR examinations, according to Utusan Online.
The Malay news portal said Muhyiddin, who is also the Education Minister, did not discount the possibility that the act was aimed at him and the ministry.
"I consider this an act of sabotage out to affect my integrity and that of my ministry," he was quoted as saying from Vientiane, Laos.
Expressing his anger and sadness over the incidents, he said swift action had been taken to trace the culprits as well as a thorough review of the current standard operating procedures in the preparation of the exam papers to prevent such incidents from recurring.
The Education Ministry today announced that Year 6 pupils would have to resit the English paper under a national primary school test.
Close to 500,000 Year 6 pupils sat for their English papers 1 and 2 earlier today, only to be told they would have to resit them on September 30 after the leaks were discovered.
This is the second subject to have its UPSR examination paper leaked. Yesterday, the ministry announced that the Science paper scheduled for today, was postponed to September 30 due to leaks.
Rumours of a leak in the Mathematics paper are also being investigated by the ministry.
Muhyiddin had apologised yesterday to parents and pupils affected by the leak of the UPSR Science paper, while opposition lawmakers are demanding that heads roll over such serious breaches.
Leakages of question papers in national examinations are reported almost every year but usually in higher-level national exams.
Last year, a report was made after questions from the mathematics and additional mathematics papers in the Form Five Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia were allegedly leaked in a seminar.
Police later rubbished the claims, saying that the questions were only forecasted ones. – September 11, 2014.
