In year 2005 Sivamaalaa was writing as : bis_mala and in a forum discussion   திருக்குறள் , a question was posed  as to whether marabu is related to maRai.

Is the word marai related to Marabu ?

marabu is related to maruvu - maruvuthal. (to embrace or adopt what has been done before ).

maRu ( + ai (suffix) gives (1) maRai, refutation, denial.

The word ethirmaRai contains this derivative. [ ai vikuthi peRRa thoziRpeyar in grammar ].

The above maRai (n) is unrelated to the following maRai (vb)

(2) maRai [ vb] - maRaiththal (= to hide) [ thoziRpeyar ]

maRai [ vb] > maRai [ noun ] ( ithu vikuthi peRaamal pakuthiyE ninRu peyarch chollaai varukiRathu ) [ muthanilaith thoziRpeyar in grammar ] This last is the one we are considering.

Thus, maRai and marabu are not related.

B I SIVAMAALAA was shortened as bis_mala.  This shortened user name was later

abandoned as it sounded as a Muslim name.
